About the artist
Stewart-Deane is obsessed with the concept of belonging, the connections we have to certain locations and what this might mean. For her home is the coast. Growing up in Pembrokeshire, rugged and unruly landscapes carved by strong winds and waves causes an apreciation and respect for nature.
after studying at Hereford Collage of Art, Deane discovered how materiality can play a critical act in her practice; where words fail, your mediums tell the story. working primarily with organic, fluid and found objects, that often hold personal symbolism to home, gravitating towards seaweed, rocks, water, paper, lighting, bedding, movement, smell, touch, taste, sound. everything that encompasses a level of serinity.

The act of gathering, processing and sculpting allows Deane to understand the mediums visceral qualities thus driving the creation of her forms. By evoking our constant ebb and flow of life, Deane hopes to highlight how we are palimpsests of our time; reacting and responding to states growth and decomposition.
